Are you ready to start conversing in Japanese again? The summer was busy for conversation club group leader Lucy, including a trip to Honshu, Kyushu, and Shikoku. They are three of the four main islands of Japan. Since she had cold, delicious kakigori in Tokyo, we will replicate this at Pelican Snowball. Through September 8 – Ordinary Sagas: Mimi Kato photography art exhibit
Mimi Kato draws on the rich history and visual traditions of Japanese culture as well as the absurd everyday elements of contemporary life and merges them in imaginary landscapes. In her lengthy artistic process, Kato photographs herself as a range of costumed characters—from everyday Japanese citizens to fantastical creatures in the forest—and embeds these images into large photomontages. Her work is narratively complex and darkly humorous.
